I Promise...

This past weekend Marty and I attended an I Promise marriage seminar by Dr. Gary Smalley. It was good and not what I expected at all. It was a lot more humorous and laid back than I originally thought it might be.

Everything they covered sounded like such simple concepts, but made so much sense. For example, they demonstrated "the hoola hoop law" in which you are only responsible for the person inside the hoola hoop. You cannot change anyone outside the hoola hoop and therefore you need to work on yourself first and foremost.

I was a little suprised however at all the negative feedback we got when I told people we were going. One of my close friends was like, "So, is everything ok. I mean are y'all having problems?" And then a family member was like, "People in town are going to be talking..." I was thinking, "Seriously?!" There were 18 couples from our church that went. Hasn't anyone every heard of being proactive?

Regardless, I think Marty and I both walked away with things we thought we could integrate into our daily lives and we got to spend some quality time with some of our favorite couples from church.

It's amazing how weekends like this remind me just how grateful I am for my husband. He has a willingness that I've never known in another person. His sense of humor never ends and he is simply my other half. As much as I love him, it never hurts to be reminded of how truly blessed I am to have him in my life.

I can't believe anyone would have a negative reaction to something like that! It's awesome that you got to hear Dr. Smalley, Todd and I have read some of his books and they are really good.

Thanks for your comments on my blog! I am doing better, it was just scary for a day or so but I think everything is fine. I'm sure my doctor is tired of me calling every single day, so hopefully I am on the mend!

How funny that people thought the worst about you guys going! My parents have gone to lots of these type things over the years. They just love going. Probably because it gave them a chance to get away from us kids! :)

*LOL* Hey Lance and I thought about going to that seminar thingy too but I worked on Friday and he worked Saturday so we didn't get to. It's funny cause we I suggested Lance's response was the same as the rest of the people! Are we okay! *L* He was just teasing of course. But it does feel like everyone is always out to think the worse when you do things which are not in sync with what they think.... You only get counseling if there's a problem... yadda yadda I think everyone needs some counseling ;) ME FIRST OF COurSe! But neways glad to hear you guys enjoyed it and gained something from it. Marriage is something you're constantly working at and if you aren't well then something isn't right. ;) love ya.
